City of Macon Urban Redevelopment Plan

Introduction
The City of Macon has and continues to be the economic heart of Middle Georgia. Macon, like many central cities across America, has within its boundaries areas that have a need for redevelopment, reinvestment, and blight removal. The purpose of this Urban Redevelopment Plan for the City of Macon is to put in place a framework that the City of Macon can use in bringing about the revitalization of declining areas that will enhance the opportunities for area residents and improve the economic conditions and livability conditions for the City of Macon as a whole.

The framework of this plan couples the efforts and redevelopment tools of the City of Macon with redevelopment tools offered by the State of Georgia. The assistance that the State offers is derived from the Georgia Urban Redevelopment Act. (Refer to Sections 1.2-1.6, pgs. 5-10 for more details.)

2030 Comprehensive Plan

A comprehensive plan is a land use document that provides the framework and policy direction for land use decisions.  The plan contains factors as it relates to the area such as:  Population, Economic Development, Housing, Natural and Cultural Resources, Community Facilities and Services, Transportation, Intergovernmental Coordination and Land Use.  The MATS area comprehensive plan is broken down into 3 categories:  Community Assessment, Community Participation Program and Community Agenda.  The Community Assessment is the first step in the development of the comprehensive plan and is intended to be an objective review and analysis of data and information concerning various aspects of the community to include:  Population, Economic Development, Housing, Natural and Cultural Resources, Community Facilities and Services, Transportation, Intergovernmental Coordination and Land Use.  The Community Participation Program involves various stakeholders; provides an overview of public participation techniques and provides a schedule for guiding the development of the community agenda.  This program has been structured to be innovative in design, creative in public interaction and packed with community wide education and outreach.    The Community Agenda portion of the plan includes the community's vision for future, key issues and opportunities to address during the planning period and its implementation program.
